Indian National Trust For Art and Cultural Heritage team visits Rewari heritage sites

A team of INTACH, Gurgaon Chapter visited Rewari on Sunday to inspect the heritage monuments of Rewari and to learn about its history.

ROHTAK: A team of INTACH, Gurgaon Chapter visited Rewari on Sunday to inspect the heritage monuments of Rewari and to learn about its history.
The team visited the old city area and saw ‘Saint Andrews Church’ built in year 1891. It also visited four historic British period ‘Security Gates’ known as Kanoud Gate, Delhi Gate, Jaypore Gate and Jhajjar Gate which were renovated with INTACH initiative, in collaboration with Municipal Committee, Rewari.

The team also went to the heritage structures of ‘Town Hall’ and ‘Govt. Senior Secondary School’, Rewari built during British period in 1890s, renovated recently at INTACH initiative and which are in good condition. One of the pride heritage of Rewari, ‘Bada Talao’, a 1000 year old water body, carrying archaeology of Buddhist, Persian, British periods and divergent Hindu architecture surrounded by temples on three sides was appreciated by visitors.
Sudhir Bhargawa of the INTACT Rewari chapter said that Steam Locomotive Heritage Shed’ of railways in Rewari, also known as ‘Rail Museum’ was the final destination for the INTACH members. “This loco shed with nine working steam engines is claimed to be the largest Steam Loco Shed in the world by railways. INTACH Rewari Chapter in collaboration with railways is trying to increase the footfalls in this museum and is trying to attract school and college students. A documentary on history of railways, steam engines and the loco was also showed to the visitors “ he informed.
The visiting team along with members of INTACH, Rewari also met Rao Inderjit Singh, MP from Gurgaon at his residence in Rewari and thanked him for providing grants from his MPLAD fund for the upkeep and renovation of various heritage structures by INTACH in Rewari, Farrukh Nagar and Gurgaon.
