LUDHIANA: The much-awaited India-Pakistan cricket match played at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday ensured people stayed indoors and gave the city a deserted look. Traffic on the road was negligible with only a few policemen doing their job. However, this was the scenario only till the afternoon.
Moments after India registered a 76-run convincing victory over their arch-rival neigbour, the city wore a festive look and people came out in large numbers to celebrate the win, which is always special.
Talking about the victory - sixth successive in the World Cup - 66-year-old Surjit Singh said: "We generally have plans for Sundays as it is the only time our whole family is together. Indian innings was great thanks to Virat Kohli's brilliant ton. However, when we came to bowl, our whole family was glued to the TV set. We were so engrossed that we skipped our lunch and had it after the match."
People, who were out for some work, could be seen stopping at electronic showrooms or stuck to their smart phones keeping themselves updated about the match. Restaurants, too, made the most of the opportunity by showing the matches live which attracted a lot of people.
"We saw the first innings at home while the second-half was seen at a restaurant. I am proud of the Indian team as they never let us down against Pakistan in the World Cup. Our legacy that started in 1987 World Cup is still intact," said Kunal Singhvi, a businessman from Model Town.
