IG's brother held

MOHALI: This is a real-life story of two brothers - one cop and the other a crook - that can inspire many a Bollywood potboiler. The younger brother of IGP SK Sharma was arrested by police on Monday in a cheating case. And this is not the first time that he has been booked. RK Sharma has been named in other cases of fraud as well. He was arrested by the police three years ago for running an illegal telephone exchange.Sources allege that his links with senior police officials helped him wriggle out each time he was on the wrong side of the law. Sharma
was also involved in the Kharar land fraud case. The case involves Vijay Pal Singh alias Dimpy and former DGP SS Virk.
This time round Sharma was allegedly pressuring Panchkula resident Paramjeet Kaur Dhillon, from whom he was buying a 4-acre land for Rs 18.72 crore, to sign the sale deed without paying her the committed advance amount. The hefty amount to be paid by Sharma has also caught the attention of the income tax officials who have taken away the documents pertaining to the deal for scrutiny. IT officials suspect that some
senior official related to RK Sharma was trying to invest his money into the deal through him.According to police, RK Sharma went to Kharar to sign the sale deed along with his friends. He was purchasing the land near Balongi. The confrontation started when Paramjeet asked for the promised advance money. RK Sharma started abusing the lady. The situation got out of control as Sharma manhandled her associates and they called the police for help.
Police reached the spot and took both Paramjeet and Sharma to the police station where Paramjeet Kaur got a case of cheating registered against RK Sharma.
