Panchkula: Acting on persistent complaints and a recent pollution notice, the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has decided to fence vacant govt land in Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) to check illegal dumping and encroachment. The move will cover identified plots in sectors 3, 4, 6 and 7, where open land has repeatedly been used for dumping garbage and construction debris, creating unhygienic conditions. The project, estimated at Rs 4.16 lakh, involves installing barbed wire fencing and is expected to be completed within a month of allotment. The tender process has begun.Officials said the step aims to prevent further misuse of public land and improve upkeep of the area, which is close to the interstate border and has seen frequent dumping, often at night. Strict monitoring will be put in place once fencing is completed, they added, with more such sites likely to be identified. The crackdown follows a show-cause notice issued by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to HSVP over alleged illegal dumping and storage of C&D waste on its land in Sector 5. The board has sought a reply within seven days.Residents have long flagged the issue. Local resident Dr Ruchir Kalra recently posted pictures of garbage dumps, saying waste had piled up near a parking lot, causing foul smell and inconvenience.
