HP strengthens monsoon preparedness, focuses on disaster response
Shimla: Officiating chief secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant on Tuesday emphasised the need to minimise losses from monsoon-related disasters in Himachal Pradesh, strengthening inter-departmental coordination, early warning systems, flood management measures and emergency response mechanisms.During a meeting to review the state's preparedness for the upcoming monsoon, Pant directed officials to ensure adequate stocks of food grains, ration and emergency fuel in the remote and vulnerable areas. He also instructed the dam authorities to strictly follow warning protocols and inform the locals before releasing excess water from reservoirs.The revenue and disaster management department is continuously monitoring weather conditions and coordinating relief measures to ensure a rapid response during emergencies. During the meeting, the meteorological department presented the monsoon forecast, weather trends and warning systems, while the central water commission shared updates on flood forecasting and early warning mechanisms.Representatives of the national disaster response force and state disaster response force briefed the meeting on their preparedness and availability of equipment. Various departments, including public works, jal shakti, fire services, civil defence and home guards, also outlined their monsoon readiness plans.
