HP CM announces incentive policy for doctors; promises significant hike in monthly stipends
Shimla: Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday unveiled a comprehensive 'Incentive Policy' for doctors, linking benefits to performance and other parameters. Speaking at the annual 'Stimulus-2025-26' function of the central student's union of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Sukhu also stated that in the upcoming state budget, a significant hike in monthly stipends for postgraduate resident doctors will be ensured — Rs 50,000 in the first year, Rs 60,000 in the second, and Rs 65,000 in the third year.The chief minister also sanctioned Rs 5 crore for laparoscopic facilities and Rs 6 crore for the department of anaesthesia at IGMC. He directed authorities to expedite land transfer for a new student hostel and instructed the IGMC principal to fast-track the relocation of the gynaecology wing from Kamla Nehru Hospital to IGMC. Plans were also announced to equip five state medical colleges with world-class technology.For bone marrow infrastructure, Rs 5 crore each has been allocated to IGMC, AIMSS Chamiyana, Tanda Medical College, LBS Government Medical College Mandi, and Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College Hamirpur, he added. Additionally, Rs 75 crore has been approved for smart labs at IGMC, Tanda Medical College, and the Super Specialty Hospital at Chamiana, Shimla. Sukhu said the state govt is investing over Rs 3,000 crore for upgrading healthcare facilities and replacing outdated medical equipment with state-of-the-art machinery comparable to AIIMS Delhi and PGI Chandigarh. Working hours for resident doctors have been capped at 12 hours per shift, while senior resident stipends have been raised from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh, and super-specialty department stipends from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh, he added.Over the past three years, the govt spent Rs 1,207 crore to strengthen medical education infrastructure, introduced postgraduate courses in Chamba, Hamirpur, and Nerchowk medical colleges, and established emergency departments in all medical colleges. A total of 57 casualty medical officers were directly recruited, and 32 specialist posts created for emergency services, said Sukhu.MSID: 125805728 413 |
