SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh government has announced a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh each for the three Kabaddi players who were part of gold medal winning men and women's team at Asian Games. Chief minister Virbhadra Singh said that the state was endeavoring to promote rural games and gold medal won by Indian players was sufficient enough evidence to prove that rural games were becoming popular globally.
Three Kabaddi players from Himachal Pradesh including Kavita Thakur from Manali in Kullu district, Pooja Thakur from Jukhala in Bilaspur district and Ajay Thakur from Nalagarh in Solan district were part of the winning teams at 17th Asian Games at South Korea.
Virbhadra Singh made announcement to give Rs 20 lakh cash prize to each player of Kabaddi national team during closing ceremony of Sunni district level Dussehra festival in Shimla district. He said that the players have shown exceptional performance. He also announced to give a cash prize of Rs 10 Lakh to Vijay Kumar, the shooter from Hamirpur district, who had brought laurels to the state by winning silver medal in shooting events during the games. Chief minister said that the state government was keen to develop sports infrastructure in the state and all necessary facilities were being provided to the players.
