Hockey icon loses wife

Chandigarh: Former Indian hockey captain, Olympian Ajit Pal Singh’s wife Kiran Ajit Pal Singh passed away on Saturday. Kiran, 69, died in New Delhi after suffering a brief illness. She is survived by her husband and two sons. Her last rites will be performed in New Delhi on Sunday. Punjab sports minister Gurmeet Singh ‘Meet’ Hayer shared his grief with Olympian.

Chandigarh: The Punjab school education department organised ‘mother’s workshop’ at 12,851 government primary schools in the state on Saturday. Education minister Harjot Singh Bains said that this event was for students of pre-primary to Class-II, and their mothers, 5 lakh of whom were informed about education, learning materials and teaching techniques.

Amritsar: A latest lifesaving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (Ecmo) machine worth Rs 1 crore has been donated by Rajya Sabha member from Aam Aadmi Party, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, to Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Sri Amritsar — run and managed by the SGPC, informed a release issued on Saturday.

Sultanpur Lodhi: Sarai Jattan villager Balwinder Singh, a man deported from the US, who had posted a “committing suicide” video before his mother-in-law was found murdered inside her house at Puda Colony here on Thursday, died on Friday night after being found gasping on a roadside at Kahna Mithra village. He had consumed poison. Cops said he recorded a video, blaming his wife for pushing him to the edge.
