Chandigarh: A city blessed to have been built in a manner that suits cyclists to meander through narrow paths and thick vegetation hardly witnesses residents venturing into the uncharted terrain. On Sunday, you have an opportunity to do all this for one hour. You can cycle along a lush and picturesque forest trail and revive the lost meaning of cycling.
A bicycle-cum-nature trail will be organized by Yuvsatta, an NGO, in association with the department of forests and wildlife, UT administration and The Times of India at the forest area behind Sukhna Lake.
Santosh Kumar, director, forests and department of environment, UT administration, says, "Cities across the world are rediscovering bicycles. Pushed by increasing fuel costs, the compulsion to reduce commuting time, environmental concerns, and the need to make cities liveable, many are back on wheels. A people friendly, green, low-carbon city is no more a choice, but an imperative destination. Cycling more will get our cities there." said
Yuvsatta coordinator Pramod Sharma says, "Let us all contribute by using bicycles to travel smaller distances. I would encourage Chandigarhians to come and participate in this event."
