Pakistan's Sikhs and Hindus to mark national minority day amid rising persecution concerns
Expressing concern over the killing of Sikhs in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, forced conversion of its Hindu girls for marriage to Muslims, and persecution of the Ahmadiyyas, Bishan said these were matters to be raised on the “national minority day”.
Pakistani rights activist Imran Chatha, a Muslim, has come out in support of the minority communities, saying: “The actions of a few mischievious elements tarnish the reputation of the entire community. We need to identify these elements and hold them accountable to ensure justice and communal harmony.”
Jaskaran Singh Sidhu, granthi of Gurdwara Babe Di Ber in Sialkot, Pakistan, said: “We have been invited to the Lahore residence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and called to the (Pakistani) Punjab assembly on August 11 to meet chief minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. We will ask both federal and provincial govts for safety and security.”
