CHANDIGARH: Jagtar Singh Hawara, the main accused in the Beant Singh assassination case, was brought to a Sector 22 private clinic for an MRI scan from Burail jail on Thursday morning.
Hawara is suffering from back problem. A panel of doctors from GMCH had recommended an MRI scan. Being the most important accused in the case and a dreaded terrorist, Hawara was brought under a high police protection.

Keeping in view the importance of the entire operation, police personnel were asked to report for duties at 5.15 am on Thursday.
He was brought in a jail bus with a cavalcade of police gypsies, a quick reaction team, and recovery van in tow. Chandigarh police had made elaborate arrangements for Hawara’s 60-minute stay out of jail. Three deputy superintendents of police, five inspectors and a large number of police personnel, including commandos from the operations cell and police control vehicles formed part of the overall security arrangements. The area around the clinic swarmed with policemen who kept an eye on every movement.
In fact, all sides of the clinic, including the roof, was guarded by police personnel. As the security cavalcade of Hawara arrived, he was whisked off to the clinic and after almost 45 minutes was taken back in the same bus. An active member of Babbar Khalsa, Hawara was caught by Punjab police in the Beant Singh assassination case.
He had masterminded the whole operation and had arranged for funds, bought RDX and motivated a person to become a human bomb. During his incarceration, he even tried to escape from the jail by planning to blow it up, but the whole conspiracy was discovered.
