JIND: Olympic wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat pinned BJP’s Yogesh Kumar in a see-saw encounter to win her inaugural poll battle on Tuesday.

Vinesh secured 65,080 votes in comparison to 59,065 votes polled by her opponent to win the Jat-dominated Julana assembly seat.

As the numbers kept oscillating during the 15 rounds of counting, the grappler briefly left the counting center to stave off the pressure and returned once she was again in the lead.

The battle-hardened wrestler ultimately clinched the seat with a margin of 6,015 votes. INLD-BSP candidate Surender Lather finished a distant third with 10,158 votes, while JJP’s Amarjeet Dhanda secured an abysmal 2,477 votes.
