KURUKSHETRA: On the day when the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave a call of staging upwas (fast) demonstrations in Haryana in support of Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal at all district headquarters on Saturday, its senior leaders in Kurukshetra including MP Nayab Singh Saini and Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha were caught on camera having meals before going to join the event.
As per the information, a video of Thanesar MLA and Kurukshetra MP, sitting with Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) honorary secretary Madan Mohan Chhabra, went viral on the internet and social media, in which, the BJP leaders can be seen having meals and plates of dry fruits are kept in front of them.
As per sources, before joining the upwas event, the BJP leaders attended a religious event at Gita Gyan Sansthanam on Salarpur Road in Kurukshetra on Saturday, where they had meals about 15 minutes before joining the demonstration in support of SYL.
The BJP leaders and workers had to sit on upwas from 11am to 4pm on Saturday. However, the farmers under the banner of BKU protested againt the BJP in Kurukshetra.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Haryana (Charuni) urban president of Thanesar Pawan Choudhary said, "The BJP MLA and MP pretended to be fasting but before going to join their event they ate well. This shows the seriousness of this party and their leaders towards the farmers and their issues. BJP has its government in state since last 6 years and they could not resolve SYL issue till date. Amid the protests of farmers against the Centre new farm laws, BJP leadership has brought SYL to divide the farmers but this will not happen now as we are well aware now."
When contacted Kurukshetra MP Nayab Singh Saini said, "We did not have any food. As we had attended a religious event at Gita Gyan Sansthanam about one hour before joining upwas event in support of SYL, so Maharaj Ji (Gita Manishi Gyananand) asked us that we should not leave without having prasad. So, we were having the prasad, when a man who runs web portal in Kurukshetra, recorded our video and asked us that we are having food even on upwas day. It is a despicable act done by the web portal reporter to malign our and party's image and we strongly condemn it. The man also attempted to blackmail and demanded money through our party worker for not making the video on internet." To a query that, any complaint will be lodged against concerned web portal, MP Saini said, "We are looking into it."
