KARNAL: A 36-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances at Assandh police station in Karnal district of Haryana on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Kashyap, a labourer and a resident of ward number 3 in Assandh, was accused of scuffle.
As per the police, the accused died by suicide by hanging himself in the lockup.

While the family members of the deceased alleged that he was tortured and murdered at the police station.
As per the family members, Ramesh was picked up by the police from his home on Saturday afternoon, but did not appear before the court even after 24 hours. On the other hand, police claimed that he was arrested on Sunday.

High voltage drama was witnessed for hours. However, police and administration managed to convince them and ordered a judicial probe into the matter.

Heavy police force was deployed in the police station and hospital to maintain the law and order situation.
Rajandeep Kaur, wife of the deceased, alleged,"On September 10, a scuffle took place between my husband and mason (Rajmistri) Rambir. Thereafter, Rambir lodged a police complaint against my husband. On the same day, police had picked him up and he was murdered in police station on Sunday night. "
Karnal Superintendent of police Ganga Ram Punia said,"Judicial probe is being conducted by learned JMIC in the matter. The body has been handed over to the family members of the deceased after the postmortem conducted by a board of doctors under videography. Concerned investigation officer has been suspended for prima facie negligence on his part. Further investigation is on."
