Saini attacks oppn over nepotism, corruption, says ‘BJP cleaned all’
Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday hit back at the opposition over various issues, including the alleged manipulation of data of the poor, and attributed the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the “people’s endorsement” of the development policies and Antyodaya schemes started in the past. In his nearly two-and-a-half-hour-long reply to the discussion on the governor’s address on the second day of winter session of the assembly, Saini listed out the achievements of the BJP rule during the past 10 years. In the firing line of the opposition MLA of the Congress and the INLD for two sittings, Saini spoke about a “sequence of decisions, especially the distribution of appointment letters to 24,000 plus Group C employees” before taking oath as chief minister.“We inherited a system of nepotism and corruption in 2014. But our govt cleaned everything and this is the reason that we are here for the third time. We carried out an unbiased development and employment for all,” the BJP leader said. While responding to the opposition's allegation that the data of the poor has been manipulated along with the increase in per capita income in the state, the Haryana CM said “there is no mistake in these figures”. “It is a matter of vyavastha parivartan (systemic change), which the BJP govt has effected in the last 10 years. Until 2014, there was a practice of recommendation and surveys were conducted for many years. The eligible beneficiaries had to run from pillar to post to get their names included in the BPL list,” Saini said. After Saini gave his reply, the assembly passed the resolution while approving the governor's address.Referring to the DAP row, Saini said that till Wednesday (Nov 13), a total 1.77 lakh MT of DAP had been distributed across the state through PACS. He claimed till Friday, the state is expected to distribute 14,750 MT more.He referred to Congress MLAs such as Aditya Surjewala, Ashok Arora, Bhupinder Hooda and others who had raked up the issue of Jind farmer’s suicide. He accused the Congress of presenting the misleading facts by saying that the deceased did not have any agricultural land in his name.“His father owned three kanal of agricultural land and some 162 square yards of non-culativable land. They were not even registered on the portal. As far as death is concerned, according to the inquest report initiated by the deceased’s maternal uncle, Ram Bhagat had consumed poisonous substance as he was upset over a personal issue,’’ the CM said, urging the opposition MLAs to “be considerate while taking up such issues”.He reiterated govt’s commitment to procure the crops on MSP and said payments were made to farmers through DBT besides the increased commission given to agents.During his address, Hooda, former speaker and Congress MLA Ashok Arora and former minister Geeta Bhukkal objected to his speech, asking him to keep the facts straight.Saini also urged the opposition leaders to “cooperate with the govt on the issue of stubble burning” and claimed Haryana has been appreciated by the Supreme Court on this issue.
