Haryana advances sunflower procurement by a week; purchase starts May 25
Ambala: The Haryana agriculture and farmers welfare department has advanced the sunflower procurement period under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) by one week, rescheduling the launch to Monday, May 25, 2026, instead of the earlier June 1 date. The decision for the rabi marketing season received formal approval from the governor of Haryana through a revised notification issued on Saturday. The preponement comes on the heels of intense pressure from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni, which had written a formal letter to the state govt demanding early procurement to assist local growers. Welcoming the move, BKU Charuni media in-charge Rakesh Kumar Bains has urged regional farmers to arrive at the Shahabad grain market in large numbers by 10 am on Monday to ensure a smooth administrative rollout. The state department clarified that while the timeline has been brought forward, all other terms, conditions, and operational parameters regarding the multi-agency sunflower procurement process remain entirely unchanged. The revised notification has been distributed to all key state and national procurement partners to ensure immediate compliance. These agencies include the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department, the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB), the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation (HSWC), Hafed, Nafed, and NCCF. Copies have also been dispatched to all regional deputy directors of the agriculture department across the state for localised execution.
