Harsharan Kaur Trehan is new PSPCL director (commercial)

Patiala: The Punjab govt's power department has appointed Harsharan Kaur Trehan as the new director (commercial) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for a tenure of two years, according to official orders. Trehan assumed charge at the corporation's headquarters in Patiala on Thursday.Trehan has been serving in the power sector for over 35 years. Daughter of late Mohinder Singh, a former engineer-in-chief, Trehan retired in Oct 2022 as engineer-in-chief (material management) and was the senior-most officer of PSPCL and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) at the time of her retirement.During her career, she handled assignments in transmission and thermal design, including work related to the Ropar Thermal Plant, hydel design and the Investment Promotion Cell. She played a leading role in executing memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and power purchase agreements (PPAs), including projects in the non-renewable and renewable segments. Her nearly five-year tenure as deputy chief engineer (regulation) included contributions to refining the supply code, commercial regulations and ESIM frameworks.As chief engineer and engineer-in-chief (material management), she oversaw procurement operations with an annual outlay exceeding Rs 1,000 crore and maintained a reputation for transparency and efficiency. Throughout her service career, her performance record was consistently rated as "Outstanding". She became the first woman director in PSPCL's history, said power engineers.After assuming charge, Trehan thanked the Punjab govt for the confidence placed in her and said she would work with full dedication to strengthen the corporation's commercial performance while ensuring improved services for consumers.Officials described her appointment as a blend of institutional experience and leadership continuity that is expected to further enhance PSPCL's commercial operations and consumer-oriented initiatives.
