Nuclear power plant project delayed by 3-4 years: MoS

Chandigarh: The Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) in Fatehabad district has been delayed further by at least three or four years, suggested a reply by Dr Jitendra Singh, minister of state in the PMO, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.In 2014, the then Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, had laid the foundation stone for a 2,800 MW nuclear power plant at Gorakhpur village of Haryana’s Fatehabad district. After several delays, the first unit of the plant was likely to commence operations in June 2028. However, as per the reply by the minister, the first phase of unit one and two is now expected to be operational by 2031.The reply in the Lok Sabha suggested that the atomic power plant – a prestigious project of Haryana being established at a cost of Rs 41,594 crore – was expected to be fully operational by 2032.It had been proposed to have a 4x700 MWe PHWR type nuclear power plant at the GHAVP site. Dr Jitendra Singh was replying to a query by Sirsa MP and senior Congress leader Kumari Selja. Selja had sought details about the status and progress of the 2,800 MW nuclear power plant at Gorakhpur village in Fatehabad district of Haryana. She also sought details of the amount sanctioned and utilised so far for the construction of the plant and the time by when the work on the plant was likely to be completed and power generation started.

Worker falls to death at power plant in Barmer

Tragedy struck the Rajwest Power Plant in Bhadresh, Barmer, on Friday evening as a 27-year-old worker, Sandeep Singh, fatally fell from a boiler. Singh, employed by a contractor for the power plant, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police arrived at the scene and the worker's body was transported to Barmer Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
