MOHALI: It seems that no one at Purab Premium Apartments in Mohali is bothered to follow the guidelines issued by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) that direct markets of the society to close by 10pm strictly.

Residents of the society, which usually remains in the limelight due to illegal activities, have stated that the situation is only deteriorating with time. “For the last two years, people park their vehicles here in the market late in the night and drink openly. This is triggered on the back of shops that flout the guidelines of not closing past 10pm. Shops often remain open even past midnight. We want shopkeepers to close their shops as per the laid guidelines so that illegal activities can be avoided in the future,” said a resident of the society.

The residents revealed that recently a shopkeeper was held with a large consignment of drugs. “Also, unidentified men creating scene over minor things is a common spectacle here,” the resident added.

Mahesh Bansal, estate officer (housing), Gmada, said “The shopkeepers have given us a representation requesting to open shops till 11pm. The decision is pending. Further, if anyone is seen operating their shops post the deadline, we will immediately take action.”
