GJUST row: CIA in-charge gets clean chit; focus shifts to Dushyant Chautala convoy
Hisar: The police probe into the violence that followed the INSO protest at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) has taken a fresh turn, with the inquiry officer virtually giving a clean chit to CIA in-charge inspector Pawan while raising serious questions over former deputy CM Dushyant Chautala's convoy and its pilot vehicle. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, DSP Kamaljit Singh said the sequence of events did not indicate any misconduct on the part of the CIA officer. He added that Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Chautala, who arrived at the city police station to surrender, were informed that only named accused would be arrested. However, they allegedly insisted on a broader arrest before leaving for the Mini Secretariat. The DSP said that during this period, inspector Pawan already moved out with his team. At the Sabzi Mandi overbridge, he briefly stopped the pilot vehicle's driver to caution him against dangerous driving, as the driver was attempting to overtake from the wrong side, posing a risk of an accident. The probe also found that inspector Pawan was unarmed at the time. This was corroborated by a local shopkeeper's statement, and records showed no weapon was issued to him that day. On the incident involving ESI Rajkumar, who was allegedly manhandled, the DSP said the officer stopped at the spot to regulate traffic amid VIP movement. Security protocol under scanner A key finding of the inquiry is that individuals with Y-plus security are not entitled to pilot or escort vehicles. Police said the vehicles accompanying Chautala's convoy were privately arranged, not govt-authorised. Notices have been issued to policemen travelling in those vehicles. Pilot vehicle has 4 pending challansDSP Kamaljit Singh is currently examining four separate complaints related to the episode, involving Dushyant Chautala, his security personnel, EHC Pradeep Kumar, Inspector Pawan and ESI Rajkumar. Officials said video footage clearly captures the scuffle involving Rajkumar. The inquiry also found that the pilot vehicle (PB 15Z 3797) has four pending challans for overspeeding, with fines yet to be paid. MSID: 130370186 413 |
