AMRITSAR: Bert Praxenthaler, a renowned freelance architectural conservationist and
UNESCO consultant visited Khalsa College on Thursday and offered to provide his consultancy for the restoration of the parts of heritage building of college which was constructed in 1892.
Bert who hails from Germany was on a private visit to Amritsar. Bert was instrumental in restoring the ancient Budha statue at Bomyan in Afghanistan, which was blown up by Talibans, and took him eight years to rebuild and re-construct the statue to its original pristine glory.
Joint Secretary (Finance) Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) Gunbir Singhsaid that there was urgent need that the ceiling and roof of the main hall was preserved. He informed that Bert informed them that he would take up the matter at UNESCO level too which could provide necessary help if it was sought by the KCGC.
