Four women arrested for forcing underage marriage

Mansa police arrested four women for luring another woman in marrying off her minor daughter to a minor boy. The women received Rs. 30,000 from the boy's family to get a 14 year old girl married to a 17 year old boy.

MANSA: Mansa police has arrested four women for luring another woman in marrying off her minor daughter to a minor boy. The women received Rs. 30,000 from the boy's family to get a 14 year old girl married to a 17 year old boy. Police on Tuesday recovered Rs. 14,000 from the arrested women.
Mansa DSP Sulakhan Singh said “town resident Pammi Kaur was not on good terms with her husband Jaggi Singh and wanted to live separately.

She came in contact with her sister Malkit Kaur of Sardulgarh and three other women, who prevailed upon Pammi Kaur in marrying off her minor daughter with a boy Sarabjit Singh of village Khilan in the district”. As Sarabjit's(the boy) mother died long back, the family agreed to pay Rs. 30,000 to the women for marrying him off to get a girl in the house for household chores, said Singh.
Jaggi Singh, upon getting to know about Pammi Kaur having been married to his daughter, approached the police with a complaint against his wife. The police investigating the matter found the complaint to be true and succeeded in recovering the girl from the boy's family. The police also arrested the women for illegally marrying off the minor girl, said DSP.
A case under kidnapping and child marriage act charges has been registered against women and rape charges against the boy. The women have been identified as Malkit Kaur, Gurmit Kaur, Manjit Kaur, Melo Kaur of Mansa apart from Pammi Kaur. The boy too has been arrested.
