Four held for cheating Panchkula resident of Rs 16.3 lakh
Panchkula: The Panchkula Cyber Crime Police busted a cyber fraud scam through WhatsApp and arrested four persons for cheating a local resident of Rs 16.30 lakh. The accused allegedly lured the complainant with promises of high returns from share market investments and siphoned off the money through a fraudulent mobile application.According to the complaint, the Panchkula resident was contacted in Sept last year via WhatsApp and was assured substantial profits through stock market trading. The accused sent a link and persuaded the victim to download a mobile application, through which he was gradually duped of a total amount of Rs 16.30 lakh in multiple transactions.

Acting on the complaint, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered a case on Nov 20, 2025 and launched an investigation.Under the supervision of Cyber Police Station in-charge Yudhvir Singh, investigating officer Ravindra Kumar first arrested Arun Kumar, a resident of Dhamtan Sahib village on Jan 20. During interrogation, crucial leads were obtained, leading to the arrest of three more accused—Mohammad Rashid of Delhi, Mohammad Alam Khan of Delhi, and Jasbir Singh of Punjab—on Jan 22.After questioning, Arun Kumar, Mohammad Alam Khan, and Jasbir Singh were sent to judicial custody, while Mohammad Rashid was produced in court and remanded to three days' police custody. Police said investigation revealed the possible involvement of more suspects, and raids are being conducted in Haryana and other states to trace the remaining members of the gang.
