Three Punjab cops killed as police bus rams truck in Mukerian

JALANDHAR: At least three police personnel were killed and over a dozen were injured when a police bus rammed into a stationary truck near Mukerian on Jalandhar – Pathankot national highway on Wednesday morning. The bus was carrying police personnel from Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar to Gurdaspur.

The accident took place a little after 6am. There was fog also but it could not be clear if the visibility was too low for the bus driver to see a stationary vehicle parked on the roadside. Police officials are not ruling out some other reason.




Villagers from a nearby gurdwara and other residents rushed to help the police personnel trapped in the bus. The front part of the bus got badly stuck into the rear portion of the truck and it took a lot of effort for the rescuers, including using a tractor, to pull the bus. The driver of the bus died in his seat and it took a couple of hours to extricate his body. A woman police personnel was among the deceased.
