Hisar: Dabwali police have booked a woman for allegedly furnishing false information after an investigation into a complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act found no evidence to support the allegations, officials said.
According to police, the woman had lodged a complaint at the women's police station in Dabwali alleging that a man had sexually harassed her minor daughter between Dec 2025 and Jan 2026.
Based on the complaint, police on April 13 registered a case under sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 10 of the POCSO Act before launching an investigation.
Police said investigators examined witness statements and other available evidence during the probe. According to officials, the inquiry did not substantiate the allegations made in the complaint.
Following the investigation, police initiated proceedings against the complainant under Section 217 of the BNS for allegedly furnishing false information.
Dabwali superintendent of police Jasleen Kaur said complaints involving women and children were treated with utmost seriousness and investigated impartially. "However, strict action will also be taken against those found to have misused legal provisions by making false allegations and attempting to implicate innocent persons," she said.
