FIR against cop in Rohtak after roadways workers’ protest
Rohtak: A six-hour strike by Haryana Roadways (HR) employees ended Wednesday after police registered a case against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and released a driver and conductor on bail. The protest was sparked by alleged one-sided police action following a scuffle between roadways staff and police. The "chakka jam" began around 10 am, with employees parking buses across roads to halt operations. Protesters demanded the release of Delhi roadways driver Yashpal and conductor Surender, withdrawal of non-bailable charges against them and registration of a formal complaint against ASI Satish for alleged misconduct and assault. The protest stemmed from an incident that took place around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Amit Maharana of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, a bus going from Rohtak to Sirsa nearly collided with a police vehicle. An officer allegedly forced the driver off the bus and assaulted him. The conductor was also allegedly beaten when he tried to intervene. Employees alleged that police initially only registered a case against the staff while ignoring the driver's cross-complaint.
The strike left thousands of commuters stranded, particularly patients and families travelling to PGIMS, Rohtak. Following negotiations with administrative officials, the police agreed to the employees' terms by 4:30 pm, leading to the restoration of services. MSID:: 130115909 413 |
