Ferozepur police bust drug network, seize Rs 4.05 lakh drug money and 200g 'ice'

FEROZEPUR: In its relentless drive against drugs and anti-social activities, Ferozepur Police achieved a breakthrough by arresting a drug smuggler and seizing 200 grams of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as "Ice"), Rs 4.05 lakh in drug money, and a bike.

Randhir Kumar, SP (D), said that acting on a tip-off, Rohit Kumar of Patel Nagar was arrested on the Ferozepur-Faridkot road near Grain Market in Ferozepur Cantonment. Rohit Kumar, a Purchase Manager at a renowned hotel in Ferozepur, was found in possession of 200 grams of Ice and Rs 4.05 lakh.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the drug supply chain used Rajasthan and Fazilka as transit points, with planned deliveries to Ludhiana and Chandigarh. The confiscated Ice is crystalline in appearance and commonly made using harmful, uncontrolled substances. Its long-term side effects and addictive nature make it a growing menace. Forensic testing will confirm the exact composition of the seized drug.

Saumya Mishra, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozepur, emphasised the police's ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks. "We are working on backward and forward linkages to trace other accomplices. Youths lured by quick money often end up behind bars, devastating their families. Through initiatives like the Yuva Sanjh programme, we counsel and rehabilitate such individuals in collaboration with parents," she said.

Ferozepur Police has previously demonstrated commendable efforts in combating drug and weapon smuggling. Notable recoveries include 1.555 kg of heroin from a juvenile, 1.364 kg of heroin from Arshdeep Singh of Mallanwala, 505 gm of heroin from Karnail Singh and Sandeep Singh of Kilche, and multiple illegal firearms, including desi pistols and live cartridges, from various suspects.

The SSP urged parents to monitor their children's activities closely and report suspicious behavior to the police.
