‘Farmers created ruckus’: Cops defend action

Ambala: Defending its action against farmers attempting to cross its barricades on the Shambhu border with Punjab, Haryana Police on Sunday claimed that its personnel fired teargas shells and water canons to disperse the protesters as they attempted to remove a safety iron mesh by pulling it out with iron rods and ropes.In a statement, Ambala police said as soon as the farmers reached near its barricades, police officers started an announcement to ask the protesters to return as they did not have permission to proceed. Police asked farmers to show their identification while telling them they cannot go further as Section 163 of BNS is imposed in Ambala. Farmers, on the other hand, asked Ambala police officers to show permission to enter Punjab and lay barricades on the road. Later, some police personnel went on the top of a temporary shed laid on the NH 44 by police and started showering flower petals on the protesting farmers while asking them to return. However, some farmers attempted to remove the safety iron net, after which the action was taken, said the police statement.Ambala IGP Sibas Kabiraj, DC Parth Gupta and SP Surinder Singh Bhoria were present on the spot. “The administration repeatedly appealed to farmers involved in the Delhi march jatha to reveal their identity. Today again, aggressive people were in the jatha. Those who repeatedly tried their best to bring down police morcha by tying iron spikes to ropes. Today again, no responsible farmer leader was seen. Police administration, exercising restraint, repeatedly warned farmers to not disturb law and order. During this, police showered flowers on farmers. Appropriate action was taken by police to maintain law and order,” said the statement. Ambala IGP Sibas Kabiraj said farmers again created a ruckus and tried to bring down police morcha “No one will be allowed to take law and order in their hands and legal action will be taken against anyone who disobeys rules. Kisan morcha organisations should march to Delhi after taking Delhi govt’s permission,” he said.
