Family members prevent police for arresting man for role in forgery case
Ambala: Police had to face resistance from the family members of a fraud case accused in Ambala Cantonment on Friday as they locked house from inside and didn’t allow policemen to arrest him.
The accused, Parminder Singh, is the nephew of a local Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) functionary Onkar Singh. Later, Onkar and former Congress leader Nirmal Singh also reached the spot and allegedly obstructed the police from arresting the accused.
Ambala Cantonment deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ram Kumar said, “Both Onkar and Nirmal were detained after they did not allow the police to perform duties. They were later released in the Panjokhra area. Parminder was arrested amid heavy police deployment.”
Police went to arrest Parminder after investigating that he had allegedly helping a woman Aarti Dhir to get a property registered in her name by furnishing a forged document. Aarti was booked on the complaint of her sister-in-law Sunita Dhir on September 25.
“During investigation it came out that Parminder had prepared the forged document used for the property mutation and therefore, he was wanted in this case. We went to arrest him but his family did not cooperate. Later, after deployment of more force, we arrested him,” Ambala Cantonment station house officer (SHO) Narender Singh said. He said Parminder was later produced before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.
