KARNAL: Family of Akhil Chauhan, a resident of Karnal who committed suicide on February 1, cremated his body on Thursday after the arrest of his wife Priya Verma and father-in-law Vijay Verma. Akhil had consumed poison after being allegedly harassed by local police at the instance of his in-laws and wife.
Akhil's family and relatives had protested for five days, seeking the arrest of persons allegedly involved in abetting his suicide.

The victim's last rites were performed in the morning amid tight police security at Shivpuri cremation ground in Model Town.
Earlier, both Priya and Vijay had surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) after the court issued arrest warrants against them. CJM Amit Garg sent Priya and Vijay to police remand for two and four days respectively.
On the basis of a suicide note recovered from Akhil's pocket, police registered a case against nine persons, including his wife, her parents, their advocate and a relative apart from three cops - inspector Manoj Verma, SHO of civil lines police station Ajit Ram, and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ram Bhajan.
On Wednesday, Vjiay, an employee of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB), was placed under suspension by his organization for his alleged involvement in forcing Akhil to commit suicide. Inspector Verma and ASI Bhajan were suspended for their alleged in the suicide of Akhil.
