Fake property docu racket: Kingpin arrested; fraud pegged at Rs 7cr
Mohali: Mohali police arrested the kingpin of a gang involved in preparing and selling forged documents related to properties belonging to deceased persons and non-resident Indians (NRIs). The racket is suspected to have caused a financial loss of around Rs 7 crore.Providing details, DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said the accused was apprehended by a police team led by inspector Amandeep Komboj of the IT City police station, acting on the directions of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans. The arrested accused was identified as Gurjeet Singh, a resident of village Dubli Khera in Fatehgarh Sahib district.

According to the police, Gurjeet Singh, in connivance with his associates, first collected detailed information about properties owned by individuals who either passed away or resided abroad for long periods. The gang then prepared forged General Power of Attorney (GPA) documents from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and created counterfeit property papers and fake seals to facilitate the illegal sale of land.Investigations so far revealed that the accused cheated victims of nearly Rs 7 crore through these fraudulent transactions. Gurjeet Singh was produced before the court, which granted his police remand for further interrogation.Police officials said the investigation is ongoing, and more disclosures are expected as the probe progresses.
