Experts share notes at Command Hospital’s haematology conference
Times News NetworkChandigarh: A haematology conference was organised by Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandimandir, bringing together leading haematologists, oncologists, haematopathologists and transfusion medicine specialists from PGI Chandigarh, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Center (HBCHRC), Mullanpur and Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandimandir.
Prof Ashish Gulia, director and principal at HBCHRC was the chief guest. The conference emphasised the necessity of a strong collaborative commitment to advancing haematology care and research.Maj Gen Harkirat Singh, Commandant, Command Hospital, Western Command, welcomed the delegates, describing it as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue with focus on Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and contemporary advances in clinical hematology.Subsequent scientific programmes included an inaugural session on BMT, wherein the speakers discussed hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and critical issues of transfusion in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Experts who shared real-world experiences from their transplant programs, discussing challenges unique to resource-variable settings included Dr Pankaj Malhotra, Prof (Dr) Subhash Varma, Brig (Dr) Ajay Sharma (Retd), Dr Reena Das and Dr Ratti Ram Sharma.Young clinicians and postgraduate students benefited from the opportunity to directly interact with experienced experts, seek guidance on challenging cases, and gain insights into evolving research directions.Addressing the gathering, chief guest Dr Ashish Gulia emphasised the importance of public participation and inter-institutional collaboration in improving patient outcomes in complex haematological disorders, extension of haemato-oncological services to veterans, joint collaboration, preventive oncology and affordable cancer care. Maj Gen D Vivekanand, MG (Medical) Western Command, the chief patron of the event, felicitated experts and dignitaries.
