CHANDIGARH: A former UT police inspector has come under the net of his own department for allegedly running an illegal immigration firm and promising to send people abroad.
Retired inspector Kultar Singh was booked on Friday evening under Section 24 of the Immigration Act after a police probe found his firm, KOP Enterprises, which is based in Sector 46, operating without the required official sanction, a top police official told TOI on Friday.

Kultar Singh could not be reached for comments, but sources said his firm had put out advertisements in some vernacular newspapers and claimed to facilitate immigration of people to gulf countries and getting them jobs there.
Official sources said one Balwinder Singh of Mohali had approached the firm about two months back after reading the advertisements, and got suspicious about its credentials after making enquiries.
He them brought it to the notice of the local office of Protector of Emigrants (POE). The POE also told him that KOP Enterprises was not registered with them and had no official sanction.
The POE made a complaint to UT police and they started an enquiry into it. Their probe found the complaint genuine and a case was registered in Sec 34 police station.
Chandigarh, of late, has become a hotbed for immigration services and a large number of illegal firms have sprung up here making lofty promises through vernacular dailies and targeting mostly the gullible people willing to spend a few lakhs in the hope of going abroad.
Lack of proper official scrutiny and a near madness among people to go abroad has given a spurt to their business.
