NEW DELHI: A criminal was shot in the leg and arrested following an encounter with the police in Moga during the early hours of Monday.
SSP Moga Ajay Gandhi said the operation was linked to a firing incident on February 12 outside the residence of a Dala village panchayat member. "That incident was carried out by a wanted criminal. During the investigation, we identified two accused involved. When our team tried to apprehend them, they opened fire to escape through the fields. Three rounds were fired from their side, while the police fired two in response," he said.
One of the accused was hit in the leg and taken to the civil hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is in stable condition.
No police personnel were injured. "Our team bravely defended themselves and successfully arrested him," SSP Gandhi added.
