Drug smuggler sentenced to 10-yr jail in Fatehabad
Hisar: A district court in Fatehabad has sentenced a man, convicted in a drug smuggling case, to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. The verdict was pronounced by additional district and sessions Judge Hemant Yadav.According to the prosecution, on May 16, 2021, the Tohana city police arrested accused Satgur Singh and recovered 200 strips of banned tablets from his possession. Each strip reportedly contained 2,000 tablets. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had procured the contraband from co-accused Viru.

The police subsequently registered a case under the NDPS Act against both accused. While Viru allegedly absconded after the incident, he later secured bail from the Punjab and Haryana high court. District attorney Devendra Mittal said the trial continued for nearly five years, during which 18 witnesses were examined. After completion of the trial, the court convicted Satgur Singh and awarded him 10 years' imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
