Kullu: Twenty-six of the 28 passengers were injured on Sunday morning when a private bus overturned in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district after the driver reportedly suffered a heart attack at the wheel.
The bus was heading from Chamba to Una when it flipped near Nyazpur around 11am. Passengers reported the driver had lost consciousness and collapsed shortly before the vehicle had careened off the road.
Emergency responders and locals evacuated 28 people from the wreckage. While most of the injured passengers are in stable condition at Nurpur's civil hospital, four individuals — including the driver — were moved to Tanda's medical college with critical injuries.
Kangra MP Rajeev Bharadwaj and local legislator Ranveer Singh Nikka visited the survivors on Sunday afternoon. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu issued a statement offering govt support to the affected families, describing the accident as "extremely tragic".
In a separate incident, education minister Rohit Thakur visited Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla on Sunday to meet teachers injured in a Saturday evening accident near Ani in the Kullu district, which had killed four teachers. Thakur promised survivors Reena Kumari and Tara Devi that the state govt would support the affected families.
