Dreaming bigger
Ayesha Dharker is distressed and flattered at the same time. Distressed, as ever since the news of Janet Jackson replacing her in the Broadway version of Bombay Dreams hit the headlines, her phone has been ringing non-stop.
She''s flattered because "it''s Janet Jackson, for God''s sake. "Alas," says Ayesha, "I think these are just rumours."
She does, however, confirm that she won''t renew her six-month contract when it expires on September 25.
1x1 polls
"I''ve almost made up my mind," she says. "Even for the British version, I had committed only six months."
US tabloids are comparing Ayesha''s plunging neck-lines to Jackson''s breast-baringhabits. Publicists for the musical remained out of reach. Janet''s office, meanwhile, says they are "unable to confirm or deny the rumour." Ayesha''s next project is an independent Hollywood
production, Color Me Cubic, starring John Malkovich.
