Doctor held for illegal sex determination tests

CHANDIGARH: Following information, a team of Haryana health department, on Saturday, raided a nursing home in Ganaur, Sonipat, and caught the doctor who used to conduct illegal sex determination test. His ultrasound machine was sealed and a case was registered against him.
Chief medical officer, Sonipat, Dr J S Punia, got information that sex determination tests were being carried out at Bhatia Nursing Home in Ganaur.A team of the health department, with the help of a middleman, sent a woman to the nursing home with currency notes bearing signatures. The doctor demanded Rs 10,000 for the test and said that the report would be given on Sunday.
He said that when the woman came out of the nursing home, the team carried out the raid and recovered currency notes of Rs 10,000 bearing the same signatures. While checking records, it was found that various irregularities were committed while filling up forms of women visiting the nursing home. The ultrasound machine was sealed. He said that a case has been registered against doctors for violating the pre-natal diagnostic techniques (regulation and prevention of misuse) Act.
