Digvijay Mehta enters main draw

Chandigarh: Third seed Digvijay Singh Mehta overcame a stiff challenge from 15th seed Paravdev Garg to qualify for the main draw of the Shivalik Public School-AITA national ranking Rs 1 lakh tennis tournament for men and women at CLTA Complex, Sector 10.
Digvijay was pushed to the brink by Paravdev in the opening set. The 15th seed hardly looked under pressure while facing Digvijay and made the higher seeded player sweat for every point.
However, Digvijay asserted his supremacy as the match progressed and eked out a hard-fought 7-5 win to win the opening set. Digvijay hardly broke a sweat in the second set as he brushed aside Paravdev 6-1 to make it to the main draw.
Second seed Paramveer Bajwa overcome an initial scare from Pranav Prabhkaran to secure his place in the main draw. Paramveer faced a stiff challenge from Pranav in the opening set but managed to eke out a hard-fought 6-4 win. Pranav lost steam in the second set and failed to win any game as Bajwa won 6-0. Meanwhile, 14th seed Tejbir Hara upset sixth seed Nihit Rawal to secure his berth in the main berth. Tejbir started off well and won the opening set 7-5.
However, Nihit clawed back into the match, winning the second set 6-3 to make it 1-1. In the final set, Tejbir stamped his class, logging an easy 6-3 win to gain entry into the main draw. Top seed Manish Suresh Kumar justified his billing as the top seed as he logged an easy 6-2, 6-3 win to breeze into the main draw.
Fourth seed Suraj Beniwal made short work of 13th seed Kabir Manrai, registering an easy 6-1, 6-3 win to storm into the main draw, while eighth seed Sumit Pal Singh defeated Karan Bhalla 6-3, 6-2 to reach the main draw.
In the women's section, four qualifying matches were played. Komaljeet Singh upset fifth seed Gayatri Kumariah 6-4, 6-4, to gain entry into the main draw.
Mahak Khurmi, on the other hand, showed the exit door to seventh seed Deepshikha following an easy 6-2, 6-3 win. Fourth seed Aarushi Kakkar and eighth seed Ankita Ghotar also made it to the main draw.
