'Dera women acting as human bombs'
CHANDIGARH: In a sensational disclosure on Friday, the Punjab Police released sketches of five women, all allegedly Dera Sacha Sauda members, and said they were human bombs out to harm the state's top politicians, including Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
"These are sadhvis of the Dera who are likely to cause harm to some VIPs of the state," Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Chandrashekhar said, even as DGP N P S Aulakh said there was "plenty of information" about these threats.

The announcement, received with a measure of cynicism in both political and administrative circles, was protested against vehemently by the Dera, headed by its controversial chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The sect's spokesman, Aditya Insan, called it a "bundle of lies" and said it was all part of the Akali-BJP government's renewed attempts at browbeating the organisation and persecuting its followers for political gains.
The Dera, which had supported Amarinder Singh and his Congress party during election to the Punjab assembly early this year, felt it was political vendetta at its worst. "This is a total lie and dirty politics of Punjab Police. Instead of focusing on the state's development, the government is conspiring against the Dera," Insan added.

Almost immediately after the police's revelations, the administration tightened Badal's and his family's security, with Aulakh maintaining that in view of threat perceptions, all officers responsible for the CM's security have been put on high alert.
