Dera sedition case: SIT set to file chargesheet against Honeypreet, 12 others

CHANDIGARH: Probing the sedition case,

Haryana Police

’s special investigation team (SIT) is all set to chargesheet 13 persons, including Honeypreet Insan. Prominent among those arrested in the case are the Dera Sacha Sauda’s state unit heads and members of its 45-member core executive committee. The Haryana home department in process of giving the final go ahead to the SIT.

As many as 40 persons were killed and over 200 injured in the police action to curb the violence which erupted after Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in two cases of rapes by special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25.

On Monday, Panchkula police commissioner A S Chawla said the SIT had completed the formalities related to presenting of challan. According to rule, the investigating team has to take approval from the home department before charge-sheeting the accused in sedition case for waging war against the state.

being the first two persons to be arrested in the last week of August, SIT has so far arrested 16 persons in the case. These include three relatives of Sukhdeep Kaur, an aide of Honeypreet Insan, who were arrested for giving shelter to them.

“We are hopeful of completing the work of filing the chargesheets in all the cases by Wednesday,’’ said Chawla. He, however, refused to share the details.
