Jalandhar: After three splinter Akali groups and some other Sikh organizations came together on a common platform on Thursday, they demanded that photo identity cards be made mandatory in the next SGPC elections. The groups which came together included Ravi Inder Singh-led Shiromani Akali Dal (1920), SAD (Longowal), and Delhi Akali Dal, apart from other Sikh organizations.
Former Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, and Ravi Inder had made efforts to bring them all on one platform to oppose Badal-led SAD (Badal) in the Punjab assembly and SGPC polls. Ravi Inder said they were talking to other groups also to bring them on board.
'Badal should explain stand on PTAA'SAD (1920) chief Ravi Inder Singh said: " As chief minister Parkash Singh Badal is exhorting people of the state to get ready to make sacrifices to protect Punjab's rivers, he should first explain his position on Clause 5 of the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act (PTAA), 2004. "He raised the bogey about scrapping this clause, and then made a poll promise also, but has remained silent in the past nine years. Badal's dual stand on the issue was so typical of his politics in the past four decades," he said.
