Mohali: Police have arrested a drug smuggler after 1kg of
heroin worth Rs 2 crore was allegedly recovered from him at a check post set up near Jawaharpur turn on the Ambala–Chandigarh highway.
The accused is Satish Kumar (46), a resident of Delhi, said assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Darpan Ahluwalia. The ASP said Satish used to get drugs from a Nigerian national in Uttam Nagar in Delhi.
“This was his third round to sell drugs in Mohali and Chandigarh. Previously, he had sold 500 gram of heroin each in Zirakpur and Chandigarh. He has no criminal background.”
The ASP said that during his interrogation in police remand, they would try to identify his customer chain in Zirakpur and Chandigarh. Satish is part of the drug smuggling racket and was not just a carrier, the ASP said.
She said Satish was walking along the road, when he tried to flee on spotting the check post, but was chased and caught. He was carrying a handbag from which 1kg of heroin was recovered, the ASP said, adding he commuted from Delhi to Mohali in state transport buses to smuggle heroin.
