Deepender Hooda slams BJP over corruption, misgovernance as Cong mayoral candidate files nomination

Ambala: Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda on Thursday facilitated the filing of nomination papers of party's mayoral candidate Kulwinder Kaur from Ambala in the presence of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narender Singh.Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, Hooda launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP, holding it responsible for what he described as the "deteriorating condition" of Ambala. He alleged that misgovernance and widespread corruption under the BJP led to administrative failures across municipal bodies.The Congress leader claimed that multiple scams had surfaced in various municipal corporations in the state, including irregularities in the issuance of no-dues certificates and property IDs in Ambala civic body. "Wherever BJP-led local govts are in power, unchecked corruption is rampant. No work in municipal corporations is possible without corruption," he alleged.Highlighting the civic issues, the MP pointed to poor sanitation, inadequate water supply, faulty sewage systems and dilapidated roads in Ambala. He further stated that unemployment, drug abuse and a "collapsed law and order situation" had worsened the condition not just in Ambala, but across urban areas of Haryana. He also accused the govt of neglecting basic public services and failing to address rising inflation.Appealing to voters, Hooda urged the public to support Congress candidate Kulwinder Kaur, pledging to work towards making Ambala "clean and beautiful".On the issue of women's reservation, Hooda said while discussions were ongoing at national level about providing one-third reservation to women, the Congress had already fielded women candidates in two out of three municipal corporations in the state, effectively giving them two-thirds representation. Referring to the ‘Nari Vandan Adhiniyam', passed unanimously by the Parliament in 2023, Hooda alleged that the BJP delayed its notification for political reasons. He claimed the law was notified only on April 16, 2026, after being kept pending for nearly three years. He demanded that the govt immediately implement women's reservation in the existing Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha constituencies without waiting for further processes.Hooda further accused the BJP of manipulating electoral processes to win the state assembly elections, alleging that the party used "all possible means" to secure victory. He expressed confidence that voters would respond strongly in the upcoming municipal elections and predicted a strong performance by the Congress.
