Death toll in Shoja accident reaches 4
Shimla: The death toll in the Shoja accident in the Banjar sub-division of Kullu district has reached four, even as three critically injured patients were referred to PGI in Chandigarh.Seventeen other injured persons have been admitted to a local hospital.The deceased, two women and two men have been identified as Deepali, a resident of Delhi; Simran, a resident of Kota in Rajasthan; Amit, a resident of Delhi; and Ayushman, a resident of Patna in Bihar.The injured include bus driver Liaquat Hussain, Abhinav Modi, Karan, Kiyan, Mohit, Ginni, Aditya Narayan, Anchal, Madhup Sharma, Ayushi Sharma, Rohit Mehra, Fiza, Arya Jain, Nikita, Hardeep, Deenu Saifi, Anurag, Shashi and Arnav. They belong to Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan.A total of 23 people, including two children, were on board a tempo traveller when it fell into a gorge near Sojha village in the Banjar sub-division of Kullu district around 9 pm on Saturday.A police team launched the rescue operation with help from the local people, and all the injured were carried to the road and sent to a local hospital in Banjar, from where they were referred to the Regional Hospital in Kullu.
According to an official, three people were seriously injured and referred to PGI in Chandigarh.Kullu deputy commissioner Anurag Chandra Sharma said in a statement that, so far, six injured persons had been provided immediate relief assistance of Rs 5,000 each, totalling Rs 30,000.The DC stated that a relief amount of Rs 25,000 had been released to the family of one deceased, Deepali.
