Police and paramilitary forces were seen checking every four-wheeler and bus entering the city. Police also laid nakas within the city to check the movement of the Sirsa-based sect’s followers.

Police are suspecting that dera followers could enter the city and create trouble, similar to the August 25 violence in Panchkula. Around 5,000 security personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, have been deployed on the city’s borders. Police officials said the city will be sealed at night for the next few days and several nakas would be laid in the city.

Even on Sunday, police had laid check posts at Industrial Area, Manimajra, and sectors 30, 7, 26, 35, and 36. Security had also been beefed up at governor houses of Punjab and Haryana, and CM houses.

During a press conference, DGP Tejinder Singh Luthra had clearly mentioned that the city’s borders would be under tight security for the next seven days. He had warned people of difficulties in commuting. On Sunday, the DGP yet again appealed to the people to cooperate with police.

UT police have already arrested 83 dera followers, including six commandos of its head, while they were trying to enter the city from Manimajra on Friday evening. Police also recovered a pistol, 25 live cartridges and cans of kerosene and petrol from them.
