CHANDIGARH: The recent boom in online shopping is proving to be a boon for people related to the sale of fake products of branded companies.

Police seized thousands of such products, including Rolex, Rado and Tissot watches.
The raid was conducted after obtaining a search warrant from a local court. Interestingly, no staff was present during the raid. Owners of the godown - identified as Gaurav Bhatia and Dixit Sahni - were booked for forgery, cheating and cyber crime.
According to sources, police came to know about the godown when Maninder Grover, a resident of Sector 38, received a Rolex wrist watch - originally priced at Rs 8.5 lakh - for Rs 60,000 from an online portal. Grover then verified the watch at a leading showroom where the product was termed as fake and substandard.
Inspector Jasbir Singh of the cyber cell said: "The accused were supplying fake products of almost all the leading brands, including clothes, watches and shoes. They were operating the business for couple of years. A total 22 CPUs and two laptops through which online booking orders were being received have been seized."
Notably, more than a dozen complaints from various cities claiming that they have been cheated at the pretext of providing genuine products of leading brands are still pending with Chandigarh police.
RAID INFORMATION LEAKED
The raided godown is situated in a medicine factory at phase-1 of the Industrial Area. Police sources said that someone leaked the information about the raid. Hence, none of the employees were present in the godown. Police claimed that the worth of seized items is in crores.
