A court order was needed to ensure burial of a man who died at Devidas village of the district on Thursday.

GURDASPUR: A court order was needed to ensure burial of a man who died at Devidas village of the district on Thursday . Relatives of the deceased, Bashir Masih, 35, were not allowed to conduct his funeral at the village burial ground after Hardev Singh, a farmer of neighbouring Kler village, started ploughing there. Hardev Singh had claimed that the land belonged to him according to the records.

On Friday, when Bashir Masih's relatives complained to the police and administration , they took no action. After that they approached the local court on Saturday, where additional sessions judge Harjinder Paul Singh ordered that Bashir Masih be laid to rest at the burial ground amid police protection . The burial took place at 5.30 pm on Saturday. Gurdaspur DSP said Kler village sarpanch Manjit Kaur was present during the funeral.
