Hisar: A suspected case of poisoning linked to a family dispute claimed the life of a 35-year-old man, while his wife remained critical in Sirsa district on Wednesday night. The incident occurred at Jawahar Colony of Chautala village in Sirsa district, the ancestral village of Tau Devi Lal.
The deceased was identified as Subhash. His wife, Sunita, was rushed to a private hospital in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, where she was undergoing treatment. According to villagers, the couple allegedly consumed a poisonous substance late at night. Subhash died on the spot, while Sunita was found unconscious but alive. The couple had 4 sons and 1 daughter, the eldest being 12 years old. Residents alleged that before consuming the poison, Subhash assaulted his 2 younger children, leaving them injured. The children received first aid at a hospital. Subhash reportedly cultivated a portion of land owned by a local farmer, and lived with his family in the farm for the past 5 years. Villagers claimed he was influenced by certain religious superstitions, though the exact cause behind the extreme step remained unclear.

As the condition of the couple deteriorated, their 12-year-old son ran to the house of a nearby farmer, located about 4 to 5 acres away, and informed him about the incident.
The farmer alerted the landowner and dialled the emergency helpline 112. By the time the landowner's son reached the spot, Subhash died, while Sunita's pulse was still beating. She was first taken to a hospital in Sangaria and later referred to Hanumangarh due to her critical condition. On receiving information, a police team reached the scene and shifted the body to the mortuary of the govt hospital in Dabwali.
Speaking to the local media, Chautala police outpost in-charge Satpal confirmed that the husband died, while the woman was undergoing treatment. He said the injured children were treated, and further legal action would be initiated based on statements from family members.
