Cop loses carbine trying to stop suspicious car

LUDHIANA: Occupants of a car got away with the carbine of a PCR cop at

village in Ludhiana late Tuesday evening. A high alert was sounded following the incident and checkpoints were established at various points in the city.

on PCR vehicle were patrolling Jhande area when they saw an Alto car around 10pm. The cops found it suspicious and stopped their vehicle while waiting for the car to come close.

However, the driver pressed the accelerator and allegedly tried to hit a cop. HC Sukhjeet Singh smashed the carbine at the windowpane of the car, but the carbine got stuck in the glass. The car sped away.

, all additional deputy commissioner of police (ADPCs), assistant commissioners of police (ACPs) and force from different police stations reached the spot.

Dhoke said, “There were two men and one woman inside the car. When cops smashed the carbine into the windowpane, car occupants did not stop and fled with carbine stuck in the glass.”

On asking if the car occupants were criminals, the police chief said, “Prima facie they seemed have got scared. However it will be verified. The city is on alert to trace car occupants.”
